THE LITTLE STONE CHURCH ON THE CORNER

T

A little stone church on the corner, holds a big place in my heart.
It will always be, Church Home to me, though we were forced to part,
For something about this little church makes me feel at home,
Something about it draws me back no matter where I roam.

I’ve attended big, beautiful churches with steeples reaching high,
They are wonderful to look at but just between you and I,
There is not that homey feeling at least so it seems to me,
Why our congregation here is just like one big family.

They know if my baby is ill, know when he is well again,
They know if I am sad or happy and when I need a friend,
We share each others sorrows, we share each others joys,
We take a personal interest in each others girls and boys.

I found in larger churches, each one is just a tiny part,
There seems to be a coldness there that creeps down in my heart.
You may attend there every Sunday for about a year or more
And you will always see some faces that you never saw before.

When we went to Sunday School I left my children at the door,
They went down a flight or two and I climbed up a floor.
There may be just three floors between but they seemed so far away
And I like my children near me when I am in God’s House to pray.

I may have been nearer Heaven when I climbed those stairs so high
But I feel closer to God in the little church, that’s the reason why,
Though years may take me far away, no matter where I roam,
THE LITTLE STONE CHURCH ON THE CORNER WILL ALWAYS BE MY CHURCH HOME.
